The junior category is for any rider aged between 16 and 18 years of age.

Note any coaches who are working with any riders under the age of 18 years need to be Garda Vetted and attend a Code of Ethics course.

There are Junior categories across all disciplines of cycling, with National Titles to be won for both male and female junior riders.

Junior Cycling Ireland members who compete are distinguished by the JR in their licences.

In the Road Races the maximum distance that a Junior Male Rider can race is 140km and Junior Women is 80km. This means that for National Championships events there is the necessity for a separate Junior Women’s Race if the Junior Men’s or Elite Women’s Championship is longer than 80km.
